Creativity, Mediterranean spirit, determination and resilience: these distinctive traits show how every competition can be faced with passion, ingenuity and a note of human warmth.
Launched at the end of 2019 and headquartered in Barcelona, IBSA Iberia faced a series of challenges right from the start. In fact, in the growing shadow of a global pandemic, the young subsidiary had to work hard to deal with all the critical issues related to the lockdown.
Felipe Hortelano, General Manager of IBSA Iberia, tells how the subsidiary managed to overcome initial difficulties and lay the foundations for a promising future.
Full operativeness, however, did not take long to arrive. Today IBSA Iberia is one of the most dynamic and high-performing companies in the panorama of IBSA subsidiaries, and is preparing to become a leading player in the Spanish and Portuguese pharmaceutical market.
Upon closer inspection, the integration of IBSA Iberia into the Group’s global strategies has been a determining factor in its growth. The company operates with a shared vision and a structured governance, maintaining at the same time agility and entrepreneurship at local level. This balance allows the Spanish subsidiary to be part of an orchestra playing in unison – as Hortelano pointed out – thus contributing to the overall performance of the group.
“For me, working at IBSA means being part of a reality that still retains the entrepreneurial and human character imprinted by its Founder, Dr. Arturo Licenziati. Unlike other corporations where I have worked, here there is a strong push towards practical problem solving. At IBSA, we don’t waste time with empty declarations: we act, we solve and only then do we communicate the results. This direct and pragmatic approach is what makes the difference”.
IBSA Iberia stands out for a diversified product portfolio that covers three therapeutic areas:
“We have concentrated our efforts on these three therapeutic areas, which offer us growth opportunities in the Spanish market, supported by high quality products and by our own reputation. We look to the future with the aim of expanding our portfolio and penetrating new segments, such as urology. We don’t want to rush, but we don’t want to go too slowly either: we need realistic planning and an expertise that is up to the task”, concluded Hortelano.
IBSA Iberia embraces several initiatives aimed at promoting an inclusive working environment. The internal survey on employee satisfaction, conducted in July 2023, returned an excellent picture, including the concrete promotion of gender equality, highlighting a constant commitment to creating a positive, fair and collaborative climate.
And inclusion does not only concern the inside, but also the outside of the company. In this context, a particular source of pride is the partnership with the Escola Port de Sitges de Vela Adaptada (EVA) in Barcellona. As part of the inclusive sailing activities of the project Sailing into the Future. Together, IBSA started also in Spain – after Switzerland, France, Italy and the United States – a collaboration with a sailing club that promotes sailing activities for people with disabilities. Thanks to this agreement, IBSA Iberia supports sailing courses for disabled people, offering a unique opportunity, and once again confirming its concrete commitment to social responsibility.
