Sailing into the Future

The 1st edition of the IBSA Cup – the end-of-summer regatta organised by the Circolo Velico Lago di Lugano – has just ended

Two days dedicated to sport, a competition between 30 boats and about 150 participants, a party for sailing and non-sailing enthusiasts on the wonderful and evocative Lake Lugano: on 26 and 27 August the first edition of the IBSA Cup – born from the partnership between IBSA and the Circolo Velico Lago di Lugano (CVLL) took place.

Starting this year, IBSA is indeed the main sponsor of the traditional End-of-summer regatta, one of the most awaited and attended events of the CVLL sporting season, valid as the second stage of the Ticino Sailing Championship for dinghies, which attracts many sailors from local clubs. Keelboats, Optimist, Laser and Hansa 303 are just some of the crafts that challenged each other on the waves of Lake Lugano.

The two-day event saw the triumph of the following categories:

  • Racing keelboats: TV surf; the team of Andrea COLOMBO, Emanuele TABET, Michele TOSI, Giacomo PORETTI
  • Cruise keelboats: FUNbagno; the team of Julia OTTINO, Palma CARLONE, Luca TORRICELLI
  • ILCA 4: Geo CAVAZZUTI
  • ILCA 6: Kamilla SABOGAL
  • ILCA 7: Andrea ARVEDI
  • Optimist: Giovanni MAGNETTI
  • RS Feva: Nicola REGAZZONI, Carlo CASALINO
  • Special Olympics: Andrea CALLEGHER

The event also saw the participation of the athletes of Associazione Velabili, the CVLL-based organisation that promotes programmes and activities for people with disabilities. The group of Velabili that raced on the Hansa 303s – boats optimised to be sailed by people with disabilities – stood out for their ever distinctive commitment and determination, that recently earned them the podium at the Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023. During the IBSA Cup, the Velabili boats hoisted the sails of the Hansa 303s donated by IBSA itself to the sailing clubs of Punta Ala (Italy) and Cap d’Antibes (France) as part of the social inclusion initiatives of the project Sailing into the Future. Together.

Some IBSA collaborators also took part in the regatta, with a crew set up expressly for the occasion. Thanks to: Matteo, Edoardo, Christian, Elisa, Stefano for their great performance and their desire to get involved!

Also attending the event was Alberto Bona, skipper and ambassador of the project Sailing into the Future. Together, who took a break from the Class40 Championship regattas, before resuming his preparation for the ocean race Transat Jacques Vabre, starting on October 29.

See you next year at the IBSA Cup, for a new challenge and lots of news!
